Pi Day: Favorite Pies, Cakes, and Cookies, Oh My!
Pi Day is a wonderful holiday that celebrates both math and the sweeter side of life. That’s right today we are going to be talking about pies and our other favorite decadent treats from around town! From Twists on classic pies to more exoitc desserts, this list will serve as a starting point for anyone looking to take a moment to enjoy life one fork full at a time.
1) Wildflour Pastry-Apple Pecan Streusel Pie: Just a few moments from the office Wildflour Pastry is always a temptation when we need a little extra something to keep going. I ordered this pie originally because I couldn’t decide between apple and pecan pie to bring home for Thanksgiving and this seemed like a happy medium and it was incredible. Their Apple Pecan Streusel Pie is a satisfying pie of captivating culinary beauty. Good to the last crumb this pie haunts my dreams, always luring me down the block.
2) Butcher & Bee Ice Cream Drumstick: This bucket of what initially looks like fried chicken is actually a sweet treat. According to Butcher & Bee these are ice cream drumsticks “waffle ice cream coated with caramelized white chocolate and a cornflake crust. There’s also a chocolate wafer bone!”. These buckets do need to be ordered 48 hours in advance to allow B&B to work their magic in the kitchen to create this beautiful concoction. Cynthia Wong is a wizard behind the scenes and we are delighted to see such a mind bendingly unique dessert!
3) Carmella’s-Carrot Cake: Carrot Cake has long been a favorite in my family and my dad would always want one for his birthday. There is no better way to mark the return of spring than with a nice carrot cake that is as easy on the eyes as this one from Carmella’s. It is the perfect size to hoard all to yourself (because who really wants to share anyway). Beautifully crafted and delicious; this carrot cake is sure to make Bugs Bunny to say What’s Up Doc?
4) Peninsula Grill-Coconut Cake: Peninsula Grill has a cake we are going absolutely coconuts for here at the office! Their Coconut cake has me longing for those warm summer afternoons spent enjoying the lowcountry, on a cold winter day this cake sure is the perfect indulgence to transport you far away from the winter winds that are currently swirling around town.
5) Sugar Bake Shop Tarts: Sugar bake shop does incredible work out of their Cannon Street location downtown. Always whipping up new and creative menu items in the kitchen from scratch, we are constaltly adoring their perfectly timed seasonal items that are sure to make you say wow! Our current favorite is their delicious rhubarb & buttermilk tart, a wonderful treat for any occasion.
