What’s Happening in Charleston: March 2018

March is a big month for Charleston with two of Charleston’s biggest events taking place, Charleston Wine + Food Festival and Charleston Fashion Week. Here’s a look at some other highlights of things taking place throughout the month.

Charleston Wine + Food (Feb 28-Mar 4)

In its 13th year, the CHSWFF just keeps getting bigger and better with more events and more culinary talent participating. This year’s festival has 109 events on the schedule (not counting the fringe events that will pop up all over town) and an even more impressive Culinary Village, which includes the addition of a Gourmetiserie, featuring six rotating food stalls and chef demos. Some guest chefs that I’m excited about are Nancy Silverton (culinary ICON!), Sara Kramer + Sarah Hymanson (Kismet in LA), Maneet Chauhan (Chopped Judge), Leah Cohen (Pig & Khao), Bruce Kalman (Top Chef Colorado), Nina Compton (Top Chef New Orleans), Kristen Kish (Winner of Top Chef Boston) and Mashama Bailey (The Grey, Eater’s Restaurant of the Year)...can you tell I’m obsessed with Top Chef and also the #girlpower of this year’s chef roster?!?! If you need help narrowing down what events to attend check out our blog post here.

Charleston Fashion Week (Mar 13-17)

Held under the tents in Marion Square and throughout the city, the five-day event will feature Charleston’s finest boutiques, emerging designers and undiscovered models from across the country as well as the hottest featured designers in the world of fashion. Look for new activities and public interaction beyond the runway. The annual Emerging Designer and the Rock the Runway competitions support and showcase a community of up-and-coming and new talent. The Emerging Designer competition is always a favorite and has launched the careers of many well-known designers including Marysia Swimwear (2009 Winner) and Carol Whitfield who went on to compete on Project Runway.

Historic Charleston Foundation Wine Tasting (Mar 20)

During the Historic Charleston Foundation’s popular Festival of Houses and Gardens, guests can tour many of the city’s historic private homes and gardens. Circa 1886 will host two wine and hors d’oeuvres tastings during the tours to benefit the organization. Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased at www.historiccharleston.org.

Pet Fest (Mar 25)

Give back to your furry friends by taking them out to experience a day of fun, frolic, and exploration at Palmetto Islands County Park. Pets and their owners are invited to the event for exhibits, demonstrations, experts, entertainment and more at Charleston’s premier pet festival! There will be rescue groups with adoptable animals on site as well as dog washing stations, veterinarians, dog trainers and groomers. Activities include a Lowcountry Dog Magazine Cover Contest, dog show, live entertainment, children’s entertainment and food and beverage vendors.
